Loss
Loss originated with the stress of moving countries: my hair was coming out in clumps. I have dark, thick, long hair, which made the situation all the more traumatic. Furthermore I found myself in a rented house, which was never going to feel like a home. For many reasons this was going to be a slightly longer term situation than I would have wanted. And this is what I do: I use constraints as material for my work. I turn the situation around and the ‘loss’ becomes a ‘gain’. I put in place a methodology: every time I showered I was to collect my hair and make a work with it in a particular portion of the shower room wall. It turned into a ritual which helped get over the bereavement of the loss.
