FLORA featured in The Observer’s The New Review – Sun 9 Aug
UK-based artist Marisa Culatto creates still lives of vegetation by putting arrangements in water, freezing them and then taking photographs of the flowery ice blocks. The series, Flora, is all about beauty and “the loss of it through age, and the futile attempt to hold on to it,” says Culatto, who sees it as a twist on the classical still life genre. She collects the vegetation during walks or while running errands and then photographs her creations in natural light in her garden. “This series was done in summertime, so I had to focus and work quickly before the pieces melted”.
